Kitesurfing
Lessons/Edging
We
need to edge on our Board to stay upwind and have more
control whilst we ride. Edging also helps us to slow
down and stop. The same again the wind strength has
a lot to do with edging, if it is too light we will
slow down and possibly stop. If the wind is strong we
will need to lean back and edge hard to keep our course.
With Kitesurfing I feel we are always better off with
too much wind.
You
only need slight pressure on the heel of your back foot
to start edging, as in the photo left my knee which
is furthest away from the Kite is bent and my heel is
slightly pushing down. Once you get some speed across
the Water take the Kite low and start edging so you
are fighting against the Kites power. This will help
you increase speed and you will have an awesome ride,
the Kite low and going fast is best practiced on flat
water to begin with. You will feel this a lot on the
back of your legs when you start Kitesurfing but you
will become stronger and fitter the more you practice.
Sit
back in your Harness and enjoy the ride!
